Euclases

Euclase, also known as "aluminum hydroxide silicate" (BeAlSiO4(OH)), is a rare mineral valued for its beautiful blue or blue-green color, which often resembles aquamarine or other blue gemstones. Its name comes from the Greek word "euclase," meaning "easily broken," referring to its tendency to split along certain planes.

This unique mineral forms in the monoclinic crystal system and often develops as long prismatic crystals with well-defined faces and sharp edges. Its extreme rarity and exceptional transparency, which allows light to pass through and creates stunning visual effects, make euclase attractive to mineral collectors and gemstone enthusiasts.

Besides its beauty, euclase is known for its relatively low hardness on the Mohs scale, ranging from approximately 6.5 to 7.5. This means it is prone to scratching and breaking, which can affect its durability and suitability for certain types of jewelry or lapidary uses.

Euclase is typically found in combination with other minerals in pegmatite veins, which are coarse-grained volcanic rocks formed from magma that penetrates the Earth's crust. These pegmatites often contain a wide variety of minerals, including beryl, quartz, feldspar, and tourmaline, among others.

Despite its fragility, euclase remains highly valued for its aesthetic appeal and rarity in the world of gemstones and minerals.
